The Journey to TEDx SISS Youth 2025

As one of the finalists of TEDx SISS Youth 2025, how did Doan Phuong Uyen Nhi prepare and build the confidence needed for her talk?

For students, confidence is demonstrated through positive energy, the ability to recognize their strengths, and the courage to take initiative and push beyond personal limits. To Uyen Nhi, “confidence is very important because when I’m confident, I can talk to people more easily, enjoy working in teams, and have the courage to express my thoughts.”

Every child needs opportunities to cultivate their confidence, as it serves as a springboard to pursue passions and believe in their own potential, ensuring they do not miss out on valuable opportunities. For primary students, a healthy learning environment that encourages initiative and empowers them to make decisions plays a vital role in nurturing their self-confidence.

For over two years at Sydney School, Uyen Nhi has consistently developed her skills and expanded her knowledge through classroom lessons, experiential learning trips, and school events. She actively participates in competitions, which give her a chance to better understand her strengths and weaknesses and gain experiences that support her personal development. She shared, “I have been practicing my confidence by giving presentations in class and collaborating with friends during lessons.”

Among the most memorable experiences for Uyen Nhi was the TEDx SISS Youth 2025, where she surpassed many other contestants to secure a place in the finals, held earlier this April. From the kick-off meeting to mentorship sessions, from school-level rounds to the final round, Uyen Nhi demonstrated a spirit of learning, a positive attitude, and self-leadership far beyond her years. She expressed, “In the TEDx SISS Youth 2025, I tried really hard to showcase what I had practiced so I could confidently speak in front of everyone and share my message. Thanks to the competition, I feel much more confident than before.”

Her final presentation received warm support from the audience, as she shared heartfelt advice to help students build self-belief, foster empathy, and spread kindness to those around them. “Don’t forget that a small action of kindness can make a big change, making someone’s day brighter and happier.” – This closing line was delivered by Uyen Nhi with inspiring confidence and heart.

Not only Uyen Nhi, but all finalists in the TEDx SISS Youth 2025 embodied the bravery of young Jaguars, overcoming personal fears to speak up for their happy community. May all of you continue to grow in confidence and do your best in the final month of the academic year 2024 – 2025!
